From a single printer in Setapak.
Hoca's journey began in 2001, in a small workshop in Setapak, Kuala Lumpur. Lim Hock Choo had spent two decades printing fabric for the apparel industry, and he saw an opening: Malaysia's interior designers, kebaya makers, and craft enthusiasts had no local way to print short-run, custom textile designs. They had to import small quantities at huge cost — or compromise.
Hock Choo started with one rotary printer and a handful of clients. By 2008, the workshop had grown to a 12-person team. By 2015, Hoca had transitioned fully to digital reactive printing, opening up almost unlimited color and design possibilities.
In 2024, Hoca's second generation — Lim Wei Han — launched the online Design Library and made the whole process self-serve, accessible from anywhere in Malaysia and beyond. The mission, though, is the same one Hock Choo wrote on the wall in 2001: "Make every meter feel like it was made just for you."
